It's lean, It's clean, it uses solar energy to mash the trash and it clearly demonstrates that clean renewable energy is working in Swampscott.

Swampscott recently installed (6/2007) a BigBelly solar powered trash compactor at King's Beach. Designed to replace the standard outdoor trash can, the Big Belly crushes 200 gallons of trash to its original volume, saving three out of four trash collection trips which in turn saves time, money and fuel all by using silent, clean, abundant power from the sun.

The BigBelly was purchased with funds which Swampscott acquired through the Clean Energy Choice program.
